Design Trend: ikat

Ikat is the method of weaving that uses a resist dyeing process similar to tie-dye.  The dye is applied prior to the threads being woven to create the final fabric pattern or design. Ikat is a near universal weaving style common to many world coltures and is one of the oldest forms of textie decoration. I find the colours and patterns involved in the ikat design vibrant, intriging to stare at and rather chaotic at times. The use of this fabric has been a big design trend for a while, however I cannot help thinking they are making a comeback in a big way- if not just for the technological suggestion of the name ikat, like ipad, iphone, etc. Check out these examples:

Moroccan Textiles

oh morocco... one day!
I am one for simple textile prints, however I couldn't resist the temptation of creating something gracefully chaotic. Although I don't share any of my textile prints just yet, this one is particularly special and exciting to look at.

Special Memories

What is pewter?
Pewter is very similar to silver. They both have smooth silvery finished but pewter is actually a soft alloy comprising tin, antimony and trace elements of copper. Silver is a naturally occurring non-ferrous metal that is mostly used in its alloy sterling form.

P.s. Those that truly know me are aware of my love of copper... as if I wouldn't love pewter then!

I love finding elegant yet quirky furniture. It almost seems natural to have circular shelving units- we have square and rectangle, so why not circular! I'm a little bit excited by these!

Industrial Lighting

My short lived obsession with creating light has returned. This time I am focusing my attention towards industrial lighting and the beauty that is so evident in stripping back light fixtures to the bare minimum.
I might have to make this obsession another DIY project. I cannot wait!
