Indoor + Outdoor Living

This weekend we joined in the SunSuper Ride to Conquer Cancer. Here is a little information on the event. 

The Sunsuper Ride to Conquer Cancer announced ­1,623 Riders raised over $5.7 million for The Chris O’Brien Lifehouse at RPA as the first annual Ride commenced Saturday morning at Sydney Olympic Park. Ride participants will cycle over 200 km through New South Wales with an overnight camp in Camden before returning to Sydney for an emotional finish on Sunday. 

Funds raised by The Ride are put to use immediately, and this week construction reached a notable milestone with completion of the building’s top floor and installation of the central lifts. Due to open in July of next year, The Lifehouse was envisioned by late Professor, cancer specialist, and surgeon, Chris O’Brien to be a fully comprehensive cancer centre for all Australians. 

Being surrounded by nature was really lovely and therefore the inspiration of this post on combining indoor + outdoor living.

This home was designed by the owner and architect Arthur Casa (his surname means house in Italian, my Italian might be rusty but I picked up that one!) and is set amongst a rainforest.

I really value the indoor outdoor living, double height ceilings and the natural backdrop of the rainforest. It establishes a sense of freedom and creates a direct relationship with nature.

The interior incorporates ethnic patterns and natural fabrics, while the rich earthy tones add warmth and texture to the living areas. 

"An indoor outdoor dining area has been integrated with the cooking area to one end of the kitchen island design whilst a feature pendant light, designed by Camilla Diedrich for Rotaliana, hangs over the other end."

This house creates a balanced environment between the surrounding natural habitat, clean architectural lines and an ethnic modern vibe.

Colour + Style + Summer

I wasn't intending to blog this today, but I just couldn't resist posting it when I saw it. It is perfect for summer and love the combination of brave colours and prints they have combined together!

This is a beach house designed by Mona Ross Berman that I discovered over at a the lovely blog House of fifty. The colours, design and the fact its a beach house makes me long for even more. Maybe it´s the longs days I am behind my desk at the office that i need some time out. I do not want to bother you with my thoughts, I am thanking god that I have a very successful business here in Spain, even if I can´t speak for everyone here in Spain, but I am also making long days here, to make sure everything goes and stays well. I am going to print these images and hang them near my desk. I have a pinboard with all things I want to set as a goal and reach in my life. If you visualize them and work hard for it, you can realize it.

How about that view? I can see myself having breakfast eating cereals...

I stumbled across this article while hunting vintage themed rooms and thought it was most definitely worth while sharing.

We lived in our house for 12 years before we remodelled our kitchen. For 12 years we had original 1941 cabinets, stained Formica counters and a collection of the cheapest white appliances available. Basically, a version of what many homeowners and renters live with.

So, what to do when all you can really afford are a few cans of paint and maybe some dishes? Embrace vintage and strut your unique style.

These 12 kitchens embrace and enhance their vintage style. Many of them are way nicer than our old kitchen, but they are not decor-mag stylish. They are not new and slick and perfect. They are real, lived in and cute as all get-out.

If you have ugly cabinet doors, remove them and go with open shelving. Paint everything thing white (an accent color on the interior back wall also looks great) and feature your stacks of dishes, cookbooks or spice jars.

Draw the eye away from less-than-adorable appliances with bright splashes of color. These red accessories look less like a cover-up and more like an intentional design feature.

This is a remodelled new kitchen, but the fun embrace of the chaotic is a great lesson for older kitchens too. The opposite of going all white and uncluttered is to let it all hang out. You just know the person who cooks here is fun to be around.
