Colour me Missoni

a missoni home1

“MISSONIHOME is known for creating its own style that reflects a celebration of life; our brand is an experience of happiness, excitement, beauty, creativity, style and elegance. We are inspired by the seasons of nature and we play with colour because life is more beautiful with colour.”

A whole new meaning has been brought to the phrase ‘living in the lap of luxury’; with the first ever residential MISSONIHOME in the world rising in Manila, through the 52-story Acqua Livingstone – the fourth of six condominium towers in the Acqua Private Residences project, developed in the Philippine capital by Century Properties Group, Inc.

There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that this project will sit as one of the most stylish residential properties in the world; what else could you expect from an Italian fashion house with prints and colours as iconic and vivid as those of Missoni?

The progressive style of Missoni has earned them acclaim globally from the fashion world for decades due its creativeness and ability to elevate knitwear to an artistic form.

In 1996 Rosita Missoni passed on the fashion reins to daughter Angela and focused on designing for MISSONIHOME, a creative extension of the Missoni aesthetic in furniture, home accessories, and interior design.

The property will consist of house functions rooms, business centre, an indoor and outdoor gym, Jacuzzi, a library and spa. The upper level is a social space dedicated to interaction and entertainment with an amphitheatre, lounge, DJ booth and dance floor, pool with swim up bar, and barbecue facilities. Tying these two levels together is a fanciful organic wire-mesh tree that winds its way up and connects to the mezzanine floor, where residents can enjoy surrounding views or enjoy a meal in the open-air dining area.

The designer residential space provides a Missoni lifestyle experience, a combination of art and function that completely redefines the condo living experience.

This Italian powerhouse based in Varese and founded in 1953 by Ottavio and Rosita Missoni, themselves, has stormed the fashion circuit for over half a century now with their kaleidoscopic knitwear and infamous chevrons, stripes, and geometrics. Their fearless and inventive use and mixtures of color, textiles, and patterns certainly, without fail, always sets the bar high for aesthetic appeal somehow marrying retro glamor with chic modernism in an unparalleled equation of distinction.

Chalkboards for every space in the home

So I went a little chalkboard crazy last night and hunted down a different style & purpose for every space in the home.

I picked up a small jar of Chalkboard paint from Bunnings for less than $20.00
It also comes in a spray paint but I found I got a more even layer with the paint.

I'm excited to share my DIY creations with you soon!

Enjoy & be creative!

great style for less

via Cush&Nooks

Today I finally went into a store nearby that I have been window shopping for months! What a fun shop! It is called 'The Market Collection' and is based on Bondi Beach. You can find them online here. More on them this afternoon, make sure you stop by the Design, Form & Function FB page!

I love the fact that you can still achieve a stylish home without spending crazy amounts of money, if you just think creatively. And this home is a perfect example of that. It's the home of Hilary Robertson, Alastair McCowan, and their son Gus. The family moved from England to New York for Alastair's work. With the high cost of living, the couple used their unique skill set to furnish their new home.

Hilary is an interiors stylist, and Alastair has a talent for rehabilitating all sorts of unloved items, turning them into works of art. While working for Canvas, a line of furniture by Ochre, Hilary asked to be paid with a Chesterfield sofa instead of cash. Weekends were spent scouring antique stores looking for bargains. Alastair bought a trash can for $2 from the Brooklyn Flea, spray painted it and turned it into a wire chandelier for the living room.

Ersatz "French" chairs ($50 for the pair from an antique show) with a few coats of gray paint,
a layer of shoe polish, and muslin loosely stapled to the seats and backs.

Behind the doors a red metal trunk picked up from an antique store for $40.

The Chesterfield sofa that Hilary got paid instead of cash; the pool measuring board was $40
at an antiques centre; a leather pouf that has been shredded by the cats hides under a throw;
and Alastair's wire light shade looks fantastic.

Hilary buys industrial metal bases and marries them with marble tops for her store.

Antique mirrors collected by Alastair line the mantel piece.

This table was a steal marked down from $3000 to $350, and the chairs came from the Antique Garage.

The nightstands were brought over from England and Hilary has outlined them in chalkboard paint
to give them some definition, and tie in with the black lamps.

The window cut-outs were display objects that Hilary bought from West Elm for $50.

Antique dressing mirrors and plaster friezes collected by Alastair.

The mirror dressing table was $150 at Brimfield.

Hilary found this mannequin at a stoop sale in her neighbourhood.

Alastair embraced the darker bottom floor of the apartment and painted it with chalkboard paint. Everything pops against it including the orange chalk flames.

Hilary has since opened her own vintage store, Mrs Robertson, featuring furniture and accessories she collects for life and work.

You can shop online at Cush&Nooks here.
